Michael or Marvin…

Michael Jackson – I Wanna Be Where You Are; Got To Be There

Written by Arthur Ross and Leon Ware, this joint, originally recorded by a 14-year-old Michael, was covered by many, including Marvin Gaye and Willie Hutch. Between Michael and Marvin, it’s tough to say who had the better version — each had their own twist on the song — but I love the instrumentation (especially the strings and horns) on Marvin’s, and have had it in heavy rotation over the last 24 hours or so.

The Willie Hutch is slick, too.
